Warehouse fire near Heathrow
19.06.11
Dozens of firefighters were dealing with a warehouse fire just north of Heathrow Airport. 60 firefighters and 12 fire engines were called to the scene at Stockley Close, West Drayton, at 10:00 yesterday morning. More than 30 workers who were inside the two-storey building at the time were evacuated. No injuries were reported.
London Fire Brigade said around three quarters of the ground floor, first floor and roof was ablaze. A 50m exclusion zone was put in place as there was a propane cylinder on the site. Local residents were warned to keep their doors and windows closed.
The adjacent A408 has been closed to traffic and black smoke could be seen billowing for several hours. The blaze was brought under control by 15:00, but the building was badly damaged. The cause of the fire is being investigated. It is the second time in three months that a large fire has broken out at an industrial unit in West Drayton.
