BA increase cargo surcharge
19.04.08
British Airways World Cargo is to increase its fuel surcharge to $1 from May 1. This is the second rise in the cargo surcharge since the last increase in the passenger surcharge, and with oil reaching a new record of $117 yesterday, we would expect an increase in the passenger surcharge, despite weakening passenger demand, to be on the cards.
BA said that the cargo fuel surcharge increase follows a second consecutive week that the fuel index has been above the level 20 threshold. The index was developed by British Airways World Cargo to provide customers with more information about the calculation of fuel surcharges.
Adam Carson, senior manager revenue management at British Airways, said: ‘Fuel prices continue to rise, making it necessary to increase our fuel surcharge, in line with the index.’
