BA to train baggage handlers and check-in staff as strike busting crew

British Airways CEO, Willie Walsh, has called for baggage handlers and check-in agents to be retrained as cabin crew to prepare for the potential strike, according to the Guardian. In a letter to BA's 38,000 staff, Mr Walsh offered the opportunity to become ‘volunteer cabin crew,’ the newspaper reports.
He wrote: ‘I am asking for volunteers to back BA by training to work alongside cabin crew who choose not to support a strike, so we are ready to keep our customers flying as much as we possibly can if this strike goes ahead.' A spokeswoman for the CAA said BA staff could indeed work as cabin crew if they are trained by accredited trainers.
The Guardian quotes cabin crew members speaking out on a web forum. One employee said ‘It is the final straw. It proves to me just how much contempt and value my role as cabin crew is held.’ Another complained that customers may be alarmed by the prospect of flying with a newly qualified crew.
