An Ethiopian air stewardess who attempted to smuggle almost £30,000 worth of cannabis into the UK via Heathrow Airport has been jailed for three years.
21-year-old Helina Teferi was stopped by UK Border Agency officers after arriving at the airport on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa on October 12 last year. A search of her baggage revealed around 10.5kg of the drug concealed beneath a false bottom in a suitcase.
Miss Teferi pleaded guilty to the charges against her, and was sentenced to three years in prison by a judge at Isleworth Crown Court last Thursday. She was recommended for deportation at the end of her sentence.
