BA and union continue war of words
17.03.10
Unite, the union leading the cabin crew dispute with BA that is set to cause misery this weekend, has said it is ready to meet the airline, provided BA resubmits last week's offer, the WSJ reports. BA responded that the offer had been previously made three times during the negotiations and the union had already rejected it.
A union spokesman told the newspaper: ‘If [BA] think that strikes are going to be avoided with a worse offer, they are conning the traveling public. The company is still trying to bully and bludgeon its way through this. We need a serious approach to addressing cabin crew's concerns.’
‘Our representatives on the ground are confident the strike will have overwhelming support among cabin crew, despite the company's bullying and harassment, which risks poisoning the atmosphere on BA flights for years to come.'
A BA spokesman said the airline has presented its offer to Unite on three occasions, and that the union detailed a briefing to members on why it should not be accepted. He said: ‘The union has been threatening strikes at British Airways for months. Unite is providing no answers to these questions: Would it accept the offer? Would it recommend it? Would it cancel strikes, or just suspend them?’
