Hoon admits runway benefit error
17.03.09
The Government has admitted making an error in one of its forecasts on the net benefit of new runways at Heathrow and Stansted airports. However, Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon, who gave the go-ahead for a new runway at Heathrow in January, said the mistake did 'not materially affect' evidence presented on the impact of the expansion at the west London airport.
The mistake - relating to the predicted 2009 gross domestic product growth rate - means the Government has now issued lower net benefit figures for this particular passenger demand forecast.
