New fire station at Heathrow airport
13.07.08
Heathrow has opened a new state of the art fire station, which replaces the existing 30 year old fire station that is set to be demolished as part of airport operator BAA’s plans to transform Heathrow with the construction of a new terminal called Heathrow East.
The new £4m station is located close to the 27R runway and will work in tandem with Heathrow’s second fire station, which is close to Terminal 5. The location of the new fire station has been carefully chosen to ensure it provides the fire service at Heathrow with the best possible response times to incidents at the airport.
As well as better training facilities for Heathrow’s 108 dedicated fire officers, it also has a lecture room and study areas plus five bays for the airport’s fire appliances.
