BMI cut Heathrow – Dublin flights and staff
13.01.10
BMI has announced that it will reduce its Heathrow - Dublin service from seven-times-daily to four at the start of the summer schedule (at the end of March). This will mean that it no longer need to an Airbus A319 in Dublin, putting 33 cabin staff ‘at risk of redundancy,’
The plane will be transferred to Heathrow and the Dublin crew base will be closed. The airline said in a statement: ‘Currently, BMI flight operations between Dublin and Heathrow requires one aircraft to be based at Dublin and one at Heathrow, with the additional cost of retaining aircraft and crew at both bases,’ adding that the move was part of a ‘further restructuring to its mainline operations’ aimed at returning the company to profitability.
BMI has commenced discussions with staff and union representatives 'with a view to minimising job losses wherever possible,’ the airline said.
