BA to recruit 800 new pilots by 2016
11.08.11
British Airways announced today that it plans to recruit more than 800 new pilots by 2016. It will use three combined recruitment programs to help people to train to become airline pilots. One, called the 'Future Pilot Program', will help about 400 applicants gain a place at an approved flight training school, underwriting their training costs of around £100,000 (which pilots will repay with lower salaries over 7 years), with successful candidates landing a job as a BA pilot.
The airline currently has 3,200 pilots. The remaining 400 new pilots will join BA either from other airlines or having served in the armed forces. The latter group will get a training programme tailored to enable pilots to embark on a career in commercial aviation. The airline is using YouTube as a recruitment tool to broaden the source of potential recruits.
