OpenSkies June 19 launch for ORY - JFK route

British Airways European subsidiary OpenSkies intends to start its first flights on June 19 between Paris Orly and New York JFK businesstravelworld.com reports. In a surprising move, the website reports that Openskies also intends to codeshare with French all-business airline L'Avion on the new services, but the OpenSkies EC code will not appear on L'Avion's existing services from Orly to Newark, which operate up to twice each day.
The airline had originally planned to start services from Charles de Gaulle Airport but a BA spokeswoman said Orly had been chosen because of its proximity to the main business areas of Paris and because it is ‘geared up for point-to-point services’.
A BA spokesman told businesstravelworld that the codeshare with L'Avion is a first stage in a longer term agreement. ‘We are looking at deepening our relationship with them,’ she said.
The launch plans are subject to approval from the regulatory authorities but the spokeswoman said that OpenSkies was in a position to start selling tickets as soon as approval was received.
BA currently faces a legal battle over strike plans from its pilots over safeguarding their terms and conditions in the light of the launch of OpenSkies, with a court date announced yesterday.
