08.06.09
British Airways Chief Executive Willie Walsh is confident the airline's merger talks with Iberia will be successful and that it will reach an agreement with trustees over its pension deficit. He also said today that BA had no plans to defer its plane orders.
Mr Walsh told reporters on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association conference in Kuala Lumpur: ‘We are very positive about Iberia. We think BA and Iberia make ideal partners. It’s the right option for BA and the right option for Iberia.’ However, he did admit that no progress has been made in talks over the past few days.
He also told reported that BA will not change its current orders for new planes despite the difficult operating environment. Mr Walsh said BA is on course to take delivery of four Boeing 777s this year and another six next year. He said: ‘British Airways had put financing in place in 2007 and we are in a more fortunate position than many in the industry.'
