BA parent reports passenger boost
07.07.11
British Airways and Iberia parent company International Airlines Group (IAG) saw its premium traffic jump by more than a quarter in June compared to the same month last year, while its economy passenger numbers grew by an impressive 6.7%. Combined domestic traffic in both the UK and Spain saw a drop of more than 15% year on year.
The numbers needs to be measured in the context of threatened strikes by BA cabin crew and a network restructuring at Iberia. IAG said in a statement: ‘The underlying revenue trends are in line with previous months, with demand continuing to show firm underlying growth particularly in the long-haul premium segment.’
The overall number of passengers carried in the month was up 3.8% to 4.525 million, with routes to North America, Asia/Pacific and Latin America, and the Caribbean seeing the strongest growth.
