MP's to quiz BA and BAA bosses today
07.05.08
British Airways boss Willie Walsh and senior executives from airport operator BAA will face a tough grilling from MP's today over the problems with the Heathrow Terminal 5 opening that caused chaos and embarrassment.
The £4.3bn building opened disastrously on March 27, with dozens of flights cancelled, the baggage system breaking down and huge queues. It was more than a week before BA was able to run a full service from T5, and the planned April 30 transfer of nearly all BA's long-haul services to T5 was being postponed to June, with the possibility of the complete move not being fully implemented until October.
The BA and BAA executives will give evidence at a specially-arranged sitting of the House of Commons Transport Committee at Westminster. In addition to Mr Walsh - the BA chief executive - the committee will question BAA chairman Sir Nigel Rudd and BAA chief executive Colin Matthews.
