BA in F1 sponsorship talks
05.06.09
British Airways is in discussions with Formula One team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes about becoming an official partner, Marketing reports. According to its 'sources close to the talks', negotiations are being led by BA chief executive Willie Walsh, with a partnership financed solely on a value-in-kind basis, set to begin until the start of 2010 at the earliest.
A tie-up with BA would be attractive to the F1 team, because it would enable it to reduce overheads. McLaren has to ship its equipment and staff to 18 Grand Prix races each year in locations such including Australia, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Japan and Brazil. The F1 team, which is based in Woking, had airline Emirates as a global partner in 2006.
