04.06.09
British Airways saw passenger numbers fall in May, with premium traffic slumping the most and its load factor down too. The number of passengers carried by BA in May fell 7.3% to 2.7m, while its premium traffic slumped 17.2% and non-premium traffic fell 4.2%. Its load factor was down 1% at 75.1%.
The airline said in a statement: ‘The fall in capacity for the month is consistent with the 2.5 percent average reduction for the summer announced on May 22, with the reductions weighted towards the months before and after the summer peak.' It added that market conditions remained unchanged.
Passenger traffic to and from the Americas region fell 2.8%. Traffic to and from the Asia-Pacific region was down 16.9% as BA cut capacity to the region by 17.4%.
