Heathrow expansion plans backed after debate

Campaigners in favour of the further expansion of Heathrow Airport have announced that their argument was supported by the audience at a debate held at the Policy Exchange. At the debate the argument for growth was put forward by Tom Kelly, BAA director of corporate communications, and Colin Stanbridge, CEO London Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking against the motion were Richard Dyer of Friends of the Earth, and Tim Johnson of the Aviation Environment Federation. However, following speeches and a 30-minute Q&A session, the audience voted in favour of the motion to expand Heathrow.
Lord Soley, Future Heathrow campaign director, said: ‘This shows that when people are presented with a balanced debate around growth at Heathrow, common sense will prevail. We welcome this approach and we are pleased that people are beginning to recognise the very real threat posed to our economy if expansion does not go ahead.’
