Big fall in BA bookings on strike fears
01.03.10
As British Airways and the Unite trade union enter a critical week of talks it has been revealed that bookings for BA flights have plummeted as the threat of strike action causes travellers to delay booking or switch to a rival airline. Price comparison website travelsupermarket said the number of inquiries about BA flights has fallen by a third since it was revealed its 12,000 cabin crew had voted in favour of a walkout.
Business travellers, a key customer group for BA, in particular have had to decide whether or not to remain loyal to the airline amid the uncertainty caused by the threat of industrial action. Many are switching to other airlines to avoid the threat of disruption, while some BA Executive Club cardholders are reported to have been redeeming air miles to fly on partner airlines. Travel management companies - who book flights for business passengers - are also reported to be moving clients to alternative airlines.
