Emergencies close Channel Island airports
27.07.09
Two separate incidents caused both Guernsey and Alderney airport to close for a short time yesterday. Both airports reopened later. There were no reports of any injuries.
Alderney Airport had to shut at about 10:45 after a French-registered D42 with four people on board veered off the runway and into boundary fencing. Guernsey's airport was closed less than an hour later after an Aztec aircraft made an emergency landing because of undercarriage problems.
In the Alderney incident, the pilot was taken to hospital to be treated for shock. The airport runway reopened at 11:10. In Guernsey, the Aztec plane was arriving from Jersey with three people on board. It landed safely and the airport was reopened just after midday.
