Guernsey runway plan ‘still to be finalised’
06.07.08
Work to upgrade the runway at Guernsey Airport is unlikely to start until 2009 at the earliest, the BBC reports. Airport director Colin Le Ray said rushing into an upgrade any earlier could be a ‘false economy’, despite Flybe announcing that it will use smaller planes on its Gatwick route from this Winter, because of the runway problems.
A £50m estimate for the runway works has been submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority, which far exceeds the original £10m budget. There has been criticism though from Flybe, who said work to resurface Jersey's facilities had been better thought out. The runway at Jersey Airport is to be resurfaced at a cost of £17m.
