Glasgow Airport announce £25m upgrade
28.12.09
Glasgow Airport has announced a £25m upgrade and expansion plan to improve facilities for passengers and traffic access to the site. Planned developments over the next two years include improving the airport road system, a new food court, a new runway lighting system and upgrades to the airfield taxiway.
The airport's main passenger lounge, the Skylounge, will be refurbished along with improvements to the internal layouts of the main terminal building in an effort to create ‘a more seamless passenger journey through the airport’. The airport is also contributing £1m towards the cost of the M74 extension, which will reduce journey times to and from the transport hub.
Glasgow Airport will invest £12m in 2010, followed by a further £13m in 2011. By 2014, when the city hosts the Commonwealth Games, the airport expects to spend between £85m and £100m.
