Icelandair suspend Glasgow flights
27.10.08
Icelandair is to stop regular flights between Glasgow Airport and Reykjavik until March, although some industry sources suggest that it may not take off again then.
The Icelandic airline said there had been a drop in demand for travel from Iceland following the country's recent economic difficulties. It also blamed the exchange rate between the Icelandic krona and the pound.
The decision mean the only direct flights between Glasgow and Reykjavik will be around New Year. Icelandair said it planned to re-introduce a twice-weekly service between the cities on March 28 next year, when the summer flights schedule starts, but industry observers suggest that this might be too early for the new service to take off again.
