Glasgow council leader rows with Salmond over rail link
25.09.09
The leader of Glasgow City Council has hit out at SNP leader Alex Salmond over the scrapping of the Glasgow Airport rail link. Steven Purcell and Mr Salmond came face to face at a meeting in Edinburgh - but the Glasgow council leader claimed afterwards he was told to ‘behave like a grown-up’ by the First Minister.
Mr Purcell said the first minister had refused to discuss the scrapping of the airport rail link, announced last week by Finance Secretary John Swinney as part of a range of budget cuts. He said: ‘I was told to grow up. Behave like a grown up were the exact words.'
Mr Salmond said the Labour council leader had not asked for the rail link to be reinstated and described the discussion at Holyrood as ‘useful’. He said: ‘I explained that in the circumstances of capital cuts, you have to make tough decisions.’
