BA axe earliest Glasgow – Heathrow flight
25.06.08
British Airways is to axe its earliest morning flight from Glasgow Airport to Heathrow. The airline is to merge the first two flights of the day to Heathrow into one service, with the new flight leaving at 07:05 instead of 06:00. The 07:30 service will be cut under the revised timetable that begins on October 27, the second flight of the day at 09:05.
The revised schedule will mean Scottish business and leisure travellers will only arrive at Heathrow until 08:30 - too late to get into the city centre for a 09:00 meeting. However, BA say the changes are part of a general review of services and insist there will be minimal disruption for passengers.
The airline plan to operate a larger 188-seater A321 aircraft on the first flight to London to make up some of the lost capacity. In addition, BA will continue five services to Gatwick and four to London City. The earliest Gatwick flight is 06:15 and to London City, 07:00, offering passengers the opportunity to still make a 09:00 meeting.
A spokesman for BA said: ‘Even with the change to the Glasgow-Heathrow schedule, we will continue to operate more services to Heathrow from Glasgow - and Scotland as a whole - serving Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, than any other airline.‘
