Scottish minister backs Glasgow Airport rail link
24.10.09
Jim Murphy, the Secretary of State for Scotland, waded into the controversy over the future of the Glasgow Airport Rail Link yesterday, saying he backed the project killed by the Scottish Government at Holyrood, the Herald reports. He told an audience at Central College in Glasgow: ‘I support the Glasgow Airport link. It should have gone ahead.’
Mr Murphy had no problem with commenting on a devolved issue outside his jurisdiction, and quipped that by making the remarks on the rail link, he may have 'not so much stepped on the issue as trod over it'. Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, who was at the same event, also expressed support for the line, saying it would help spur investment in the city.
