Jenners closes Edinburgh and Glasgow airport shops
22.04.07
Department store Jenners is to close its shops at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports following a drop in sales caused by tighter security rules, the company has said. The rules include a ban on taking liquids over 100ml through screening areas, which has hit sales at the airport stores.
An announcement was made to staff late last week, confirming that the shops will close at the end of September. Those not taking redundancy being redeployed with the House of Fraser, which owns Jenners.
A spokesman for the company said: 'Since the measures to heighten security at airports, our business at the stores have been hugely affected. As a result of passengers being restricted in the amount they can carry through security areas trade and profitability of both airport stores has been detrimentally impacted.'
