Glasgow Airport Skyhub opens
21.10.08
The biggest passenger improvement at Glasgow Airport for 14 years opens today, with the launch of the first part of its £31 million Skyhub extension to the main terminal.
The ground floor opens as a new arrivals meeting hall this morning, a week before the first floor becomes the airport's new single passenger security screening area – Scotland's largest. All departing passengers will be channelled through the checkpoint, which is the size of a football pitch and replaces three separate screening areas.
The extension, at the east end of the main check-in hall, will also see most shops in the terminal being permanently restricted to passengers only from 04:00 next Tuesday. Staircases and escalators behind the check-in desks, and an overhead walkway from the main multi-storey car park, will be closed.
