Job loss fear over Glasgow Airport rail link axe
21.09.09
The axing of plans for a Glasgow Airport rail link could cost thousands of jobs, the Scottish Sunday Mail reports. The scheme would have linked Glasgow Central station to the airport via Paisley. Labour leader Iain Gray signed off the project in 2003 when his party were in power, but the SNP administration cancelled the £400m scheme on Thursday as part of a package of budget cuts.
Mr Gray told the newspaper: ‘The decision to cut the Glasgow Airport rail link and the 1300 jobs it would support is a savage blow to the west of Scotland. It will also hit Scottish business right across the board. Transport infrastructure plays a crucial role in any economy.’
