Glasgow Airport hero gets new role – judge of pole dancing contest
21.06.08
Glasgow Airport hero John Smeaton might have tackled terrorists but he could be facing his trickiest challenge yet, the Daily Record reports. After leaving car park security chief role he seems to be embracing the Celebrity circuit to generate income, with the 32-year-old former baggage handler has been lined up to judge who has the best moves at tonight's Scottish Pole Dancing championships in Glasgow.
The championships are the brainchild of Ex Hot Gossip dancer Debbie Ash - sister of Men Behaving Badly star Leslie Ash. Some of the country's most athletic pole dancers will be competing for a £2500 cash prize at the inaugural event, with 'Smeato' one of the judges.
Debbie, who lives in Glasgow, will be helping John judge who does the best spins and splits along with Jim Ballantyne, chairman of Airdrie United Football Club, and Rock Radio DJ Tom Russell. But she warned anyone expecting thongs and suggestive moves that they would be disappointed.
She said: ‘These girls are like gymnasts. The standard has been absolutely outstanding. It's the first time the event has been held and we're hoping it will become an annual event.’ The championships are taking place at the Seventh Heaven club in Glasgow at 20:00 tonight.
