Flybe's BA Connect purchase threatens 350 Scottish jobs

Nearly 350 British Airways' ground-handling jobs at Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports are under threat as a result of the proposed takeover of BA Connect by Flybe, the Scotsman newspaper reports.
Aberdeen's BA flights will be cut by 25 percent as a result of the takeover, 50 percent at Edinburgh and 30 percent at Glasgow. The potential cuts affect 56 Aberdeen staff, 136 Edinburgh and 139 Glasgow, said the spokesman. Ground staff in Manchester will also be affected.
Staff meetings involving those potentially affected were held at the end of last week. Officials were unable to give any more certainty to workers of a future, other than to say a review is underway and a final decision will be made by the end of the year.
A spokesman for BA in Scotland confirmed that, 'as a result of the potential loss of flights, the proposed sale would result in a significant impact' on the number of ground-handling staff.
