Glasgow Airport terminal to close next week

Glasgow Airport is to close its second terminal - known as T2 - from next week in a bid to save hundreds of thousands of pounds. But officials have dismissed speculation that they plan to ban night time operations, the Evening Times reports.
T2 is being mothballed from Tuesday and will remain closed until the aviation's winter season ends on March 31. The shutdown is expected to save at least £300,000. However, the airport will continue to operate round the clock.
Customer service director Derek Provan told the newspaper: ‘The decision to close T2 for a short period is the right one for Glasgow Airport and its airlines. This is simply a matter of good housekeeping. T2 is little used during the quiet winter months. It makes economic sense to close it over the winter to reduce costs.'
‘The airport is a commercial operation and, like any private business, we need to keep a tight control over our costs so we can make best use of our resources, and invest for the future.’
But the Evening Times reports that the shutdown sparked a major bust-up behind the scenes and had to be delayed for several weeks. The row involved airport boss Amanda McMillan and easyJet. The budget airline generates more income for Glasgow Airport than any other carrier, and uses T2 for its check-in facilities.
easyJet was asked to switch passenger services to the adjoining main terminal only to transfer check-in facilities back to T2 when it reopens in April, but the airline refused. It demanded permanent check-in facilities in the main building to avoid a return to T2. Initially, Ms McMillan rejected the request, but is expected to allow easyJet to make a permanent switch.
