Ash cloud causes 30 hour delay at Glasgow Airport
13.05.10
Passengers were stranded at Glasgow Airport for more than 30 hours as the volcanic ash cloud continued to cause travel chaos, the Evening Times reports. Despite all UK airports remaining open, the cloud is drifting across Spain, Portugal and northern Africa, causing cancellations to these destinations.
Budget airlines Ryanair and easyJet and Spanish airline Iberia were among those forced to ground their aircraft. Charter flights were also affected by the ash. One plane-load of passengers due to travel to Madeira with Thomas Cook waited over 30 hours before their flight, which should have left Glasgow Airport on Monday, was eventually cancelled the newspaper reports.
Forecasters warn the cloud will continue to disrupt flights around Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, north Africa and parts of France.
