Glasgow Airport has landing more sunshine flights to holiday hotspots in Spain and Portugal for next summer, the Evening Times reports Thousands of extra passengers are set to jet out of the city airport next year to resorts in the Costas, the Canaries, the Balearics and the Algarve.
Manchester-based Sunways Holidays is to launch the new sunshine flights from Scotland and hopes to fly almost 25,000 passengers out of Glasgow. It follows the recent collapse of Seguro Holidays, which flew from local rival Prestwick, and of XL Airways.
Sunways plans to offer two flights a week to Girona on the Costa Brava, with one flight a week to Alicante on the Costa Blanca, Faro in The Algarve, the Canary islands of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria and the island capital of Palma on Majorca next summer.
Felipe Rodriguez, managing director and founder of Sunways Holidays, told the newspaper: ‘We felt that with the demise of Seguro Holidays and XL Airways there was a demand in Scotland for good value holidays to popular destinations.'
The airport's managing director Amanda McMillan said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Sunways Holidays to Scotland and wish them every success with their 2009 programme. This is further good news for Glasgow Airport and shows that, despite the current economic climate, it is still possible to attract new business.’
