Fairtrade roadshow at Glasgow Airport
08.03.08
Fairtrade supporters targeted holidaymakers and tourists yesterday in their campaign to make win the prestigious status for Renfrewshire. The Fairtrade Roadshow, which has been visiting various venues as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, was at Glasgow Airport for the day.
A stall manned by volunteers from Renfrewshire Fairtrade Steering Group offered leaflets, sample tasters and information on why buying and selling Fairtrade products is important. The aim of the group is to follow on from the success of Paisley and Bishopton in achieving Fairtrade status for the whole of Renfrewshire.
Council leader Derek Mackay, chair of the group, said: ‘We are committed to making Renfrewshire a Fairtrade zone and want to spread that message as far as possible. There are so many options for buying Fairtrade products now including clothing, wine, chocolate, tea, coffee, fruit, flowers and even footballs. The roadshow is a way of encouraging people to try some of these products and showing them how they could change someone else’s life by choosing to buy these items.’
