Emergency landing at Glasgow Airport for American jet
04.03.08
An American Airlines plane flying from Heathrow to Los Angeles made an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport yesterday after a warning light in the cockpit incorrectly indicated there might be a fire in the hold.
The Boeing 777-200 passenger jet, carrying 191 passengers and 14 crew, had taken off normally from Heathrow but was diverted when the light showed. It touched down at Glasgow Airport around 13:30, a spokesman for airport operator BAA said.
Fire services were on the scene but were not required. All the passengers disembarked after landing while the cargo hold was emptied and inspected. The flight was scheduled to resume late yesterday.
