Only two houses qualify for noise insulation at Glasgow Airport

Residents living under the flightpath of Glasgow Airport have lost out in a bid for some peace and quiet, the Evening News reports. The airport’s owners, facing a claim for soundproofing from thousands of residents said they would foot the bill for sound insulation – for two homes.
BAA has set a limit of 66 decibels as the trigger for residents, who have complained about noisy aircraft, to claim financial help to install double glazing. This means only two properties – both virtually within view of the runway – can qualify.
The airport conceded very few people would be given help under the scheme, but said it was increasing its ‘Flightpath fund’, which will nearly double to £150,000 next year, to give general help to communities affected by noise pollution. This helps schools, libraries, halls and other public properties, but does not help residents insulate homes.
