Glasgow Airport boss raises concerns over axed rail link
02.02.10
Axing the Glasgow Airport Rail Link has left a ‘gaping hole’ in plans to improve passenger access, airport managing director Amanda McMillan told MSPs. She wrote to all 129 MSPs outlining her concerns for boosting business since the link was removed from the SNP's spending plan last September.
Ms McMillan said she was worried that by dropping the rail project it would leave ‘a gaping hole’ in road and rail access to an economic hub of ‘national importance’, and that taking no other action was not an option. She wants politicians to put pressure on ministers to find ‘alternatives’ and safeguard financial resources, and said the rail link remained the airport operator's favoured option.
She added that ground links to the airport were ‘frustrating’ for passengers, particularly on the M8. A Scottish Government spokesman said through Transport Scotland it was working closely with the airport operator BAA to ‘identify further enhancements to Glasgow's transport infrastructure to improve connections across the city’.
