Jet2 launch Glasgow flights
01.04.11
Jet2 has started operating flights from Glasgow Airport, creating a total of 150 jobs, including cabin crew, ground staff and pilots. The first of the airline's new flights departed to Alicante earlier this week. It will fly to Nice, Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Majorca, Paphos and Tenerife during the summer months, and flights to Geneva will also operate from December 23.
Managing director of Jet2, Ian Doubtfire, said: ‘This is an exciting day for us. After two years' planning we have operated our first flight out of Glasgow. We have two aircraft based here and have been thrilled with the positive response to date. As a result, we have increased our capacity on our most popular sunshine routes.'
Mr Doubtfire said he estimated around 300,000 passengers would use the flights this summer and he expected the number of people employed would increase next year. He said: ‘We have been spending the last six months recruiting staff and we have been really pleased. We have got some fantastic people. We plan to expand further in 2012.’
