Lack of business passengers sees BA axe Gatwick – New York route
30.05.09
British Airways will axe its Gatwick to New York flights just a year after it launched the service, the airline announced yesterday. The route was being cut from October 25 'due to the economic climate' - its first and business class cabins are not generating enough money to justify the flights.
The service was only launched in October 2008. A BA spokesman said the airline will launch all business class flights between New York and London City airport for the first time this autumn, and will also continue its nine-times-a-day Heathrow - New York services.
The airline also said that it will launch flights to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean for the first time. BA will start a three-times-weekly service between Gatwick and Male in the Maldives from October 25.
