Airport health protection stepped up over swine flu
30.04.09
Every airport in the UK will have representatives from the Health Protection Agency on hand from today, health secretary Alan Johnson announced today. The news comes as three more Britons are confirmed as infected with the swine flu virus, bringing the total number to five.
Mr Johnson said the decision to ensure that airports had a Health Protection Agency presence was to make sure the UK is as ‘well prepared as any country in the world’. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has advised against all but essential travel to Mexico and all flights to the country carrying passengers from UK airports have been cancelled, with empty planes travelling to the country to collect returning passengers.
