Lightening strike for easyJet Gatwick plane
29.11.09
An easyJet plane was forced to turn back to Gatwick after being struck by lightning yesterday, the Express reports. The strike caused a flash and a bang about 45 minutes in to the flight to Lanzarote, with the jet turning back as a precaution.
The Airbus 319 aircraft, with 136 passengers on board, took off in stormy weather at 08:30. A passenger told the newspaper: 'There was a huge flash and a loud bang. The plane shuddered and there was quite a lot of turbulence, the worst I’ve ever experienced. Then the aircraft suddenly dropped dramatically and some people were quite scared. As we landed back in Gatwick, we had fire-engines chasing us down the runway.'
After checks, the passengers flew in the same plane to Lanzarote, where they arrived 4 hours late. An easyJet spokeswoman told the Express there was no evidence of a fault as a result of the strike.
