Gatwick drops one bag rule
26.03.08
Passengers travelling from Gatwick Airport will be able to carry more than one bag through security - as long as their airline also allows this - from Monday (March 31).
The government restriction limiting passengers to one item of carry on luggage was lifted at a number of other UK airports on January 7, and at Gatwick for transfer passengers in February. However, the airport’s overall restriction remained in place while new x-ray technology was installed in the central search areas. The work has now been completed.
Gatwick will continue to apply the Department for Transport’s cabin baggage restrictions, which the size of items to 56cm tall, 45cm wide and 25cm deep. In addition, some airlines operating at Gatwick - such as its biggest carrier, easyJet - have chosen to continue with a restriction of only one item of hand baggage. Passengers are advised to check with their airline before travelling to the airport.
