Newspaper highlights high cost of airport parking

Airport parking costs more than ever before, a Sunday Mirror survey found. A Which? spokesman told the newspaper: ‘You can save up to 60 percent by choosing the right airport and advance booking.’
Heathrow - the most expensive - charges £228.90 for two weeks car parking, up from £223.50 in 2006, while Luton's long stay car park works out at £142.50. A fortnight at Gatwick or Stansted costs £135, compared with £124.50 three years ago. Glasgow is still one of the cheapest at £95.80 for two weeks but it was £74.50 three years ago.
Which? advise holidaymakers to book online or use off-site car parks to reduce cost. To compare the cost of both at five low cost suppliers go to www.1stairportparking.co.uk.
Britain's biggest airport operator is BAA, owners of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. The Spanish-owned firm made a quarter of their profit - £154million - from airport parking last year. A BAA spokesman told the newspaper: ‘All the revenue from parking is invested back into our airports.’
