Clickair to launch Gatwick – Vigo flights
25.04.08
Spanish budget airline Clickair says that it will become the first low-cost airline to fly from the UK to Vigo in northern Spain when it launches a service between Gatwick and the city in South Galicia, in the Pontevedra province, on June 21.
The new route will operate three times a week, departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. With some 60,000 travellers are expected to use it in the first year, it will help to bring the total number of passengers passing through Vigo's Peinador airport in 2008 to 1.5 million.
Vigo is a natural harbour in north-western Spain, close to the country's border with Portugal, and is regularly visited by vessels and yachts en route to Africa, Gibraltar and the Canary Islands. The warm-water Gulf Stream current means that Vigo, unlike some other Galician cities, enjoys warm summers and mild winters.
The flights will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft and fares are from £30 each way, including all taxes.
