Gatwick charity invites grant bids

Independent charity the Gatwick Airport Community Trust is gearing up to award more grants to groups in the areas directly affected by the airport. The trust is inviting applications for grants in 2011 and has some £176,000 to award to projects that benefit the wider community .
Funded by Gatwick Airport, but with independent trustees, the trust has run an annual grants programme since it was launched in 2002, awarding grants totalling well over £1 million to more than 1300 local voluntary community groups and organisations. It was set up as part of the legal arrangements between West Sussex County Council, Crawley Borough Council and the airport, and awards grants every year for such charitable purposes as the trustees determine within the area of benefit, covering parts of East and West Sussex, Surrey and Kent.
The range of projects it has supported in the past has included those helping the young, the elderly and the disabled, the arts, sporting facilities, environmental improvement and conservation, improvements to community facilities and volunteering. The level of grants ranges from £1,000 to £5,000. Occasional larger grants may be considered if the impact is targeted to benefit a significant number of people and is considered to make a valuable and noticeable difference longer term.
Before submitting an application, applicants should refer to the detailed guidelines on the trust's website: www.gact.org.uk. Applications for grants in 2011 can be submitted now by downloading an application form from the trust’s website, or by calling 01892 826088. The deadline is March 21.Add to: del.icio.us | Digg it | Newsvine | NowPublic | Reddit
