Gatwick Express driver wins award
23.10.09
Gatwick Express driver Mark Thorn picked up the Train Driver of the Year award at the recent Rail Staff Awards. He was nominated for the award for his quick thinking and caring behaviour during an incident in July.
During the incident Mark rescued a woman from the track at Gatwick. He needed to warn and stop an oncoming train, carry out procedures to make the track safe and, with the help of a colleague, help the woman onto his train where he applied First Aid. Once he had handed over to the emergency services, he went on to finish his shift on the airport to London link as normal.
