Government will not call in Gatwick terminal plans
21.11.09
The Government has decided not to call in a planning application to extend Gatwick's North Terminal. The decision whether or not to grant planning permission now rests with Crawley Borough Council. Last month, the council indicated that it would approve the proposal.
The application seeks to extend the North Terminal to enable Gatwick to handle 40 million passengers a year with 20,000 extra flights. Last month, the Government imposed a direction on Crawley Borough Council to stop it from giving planning permission until the Government had decided whether a public inquiry should be held. Now that threat has been removed.
