BA axe Gatwick – Varna route
20.10.10
British Airways is cancelling its route between the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna and Gatwick Airport. Emil Delibashev, British Airways Sales Manager for the Balkans, said: ‘The reasons for this decision are simply commercial. The route turned out to be unprofitable.'
BA launched the year-round four times weekly flights on the route in 2006. In 2008, the flights were switched to summer season only and in 2010 the the airline cut back to twice a week on this route.
The airline will continue to offer flights between Varna and London for the same price. However, passengers will fly with partner airline Malev from Varna to Budapest and on with BA from Budapest to Heathrow. Passengers, who have already bought flights can choose to fly with Malev / BA or receive their money back.
