Italy strikes to hit flights today
17.11.11
Passengers travelling to Italy are being advised to check the status of their flights before setting off to the airport today, as a general strike is likely to cause delays and cancellations. Air traffic controllers plan to strike between 12:00 - 16:00 today (local time).
easyJet has warned that the strike is likely to affect air traffic control and urged passengers to check their flights on easyjet.com A statement on its website said: ‘While the circumstances are outside of our control, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to reassure passengers that we are doing everything possible to minimise the disruption.'
BA plans to operate two flights from Italy earlier than scheduled, and has warned that other flights could be affected. We could not find a similar warning on the Ryanair website, and the majority of its flights to and from Italy appear to be on time at the moment [before the air traffic control strike has started], with delays reported to / from Milan (Bergamo).
