Virgin confirms merger interest after reports of Delta approach
15.12.10
Virgin Atlantic, the Richard Branson-controlled carrier that signaled interest in a merger six months ago after BA's transatlantic joint venture with American Airlines was approved, said it has received ‘a number of lines of enquiry’ about possible deals, Bloomberg reports. Adviser Deutsche Bank will work with the airline for a ‘number of months,’ Greg Dawson, a spokesman for Virgin, said late yesterday in an e-mailed statement. ‘It is far too early to comment on individual details,’ he added.
The airline confirmed contacts after Sky News said that Delta Air Lines was among airlines to have made approaches about a possible tie-up. Gatwick based Virgin hired Deutsche Bank as mergers helped competitors bulk up and after transatlantic rivals BA and American won regulatory approval to deepen ties.
