TUI cancel Boeing Dreamliner orders
12.10.09
TUI Travel has cancelled 10 of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order and put back delivery to early 2012 for the remainder of its order. It is not now expecting its first Dreamliner until three years after the original delivery date of spring this year. Production problems with the innovative new plane at Boeing’s Seattle factory meant the delivery date had slipped to winter 2010 until TUI’s latest announcement about the cancellations put it back further.
A spokesman for TUI said it decided to cancel 10 of its 23 Dreamliners on order after ‘extensive discussions’ with Boeing. But he said the holiday company still believed the Dreamliner was the ideal aircraft for its long-haul flying because it would be able to fly longer distances than equivalent aircraft today with greater fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
TUI is still expecting to be the first to fly Dreamliners in the UK. However, BA's deliveries are also scheduled for 2012. Monarch and Virgin Atlantic are not expecting delivery of their aircraft until 2013.
